England's Coach Southee Uncertain on The Ashes Availability

Tim Southee

The bowler's most recent Test for New Zealand was versus England in the final month of 2024.

England's bowling consultant Tim Southee is currently evaluating what his involvement will be at the upcoming Ashes series in the host nation.

The former New Zealand pace bowler is only likely to be present for the first Test because of his participation in the International League T20 competition, which begins on December 2 in the United Arab Emirates.

The 36-year-old, 36, took up a position as England's fast bowling consultant in the warmer months after taking 391 wickets in 107 Test matches for the Kiwis.

Commenting as the English team for the first of three T20 matches against New Zealand was announced, he said of his participation: "We are still evaluating the situation at the moment.

"We will determine the outcome over the coming days."

England bowling legend Broad had stated the Australia team as their "worst team since 2010", but Southee was in little doubt over what to expect during the contest, which starts on 21 November.

"I don't think there's at any time a poor Australian cricket team," Southee said.

"Our focus is squarely on what we're trying to do. In my opinion the caliber of [England's] team that's heading out to the host country is brilliant.

"It should be an thrilling encounter, that series. Not just [are|do] English and Australian people looking forward to it, I think the entire cricketing community is."

But, before England head to the city of Perth for the first Ashes match, they face New Zealand in Christchurch on this Saturday.
